Flyaways – What Are They & How to Tame Them

We are talking all things flyaways. What are they? How do they happen? And how can you combat them for all your styling needs. We understand how frustrating it can be when you’re trying to style your hair and those pesky, little flyaways aren’t working with you. Now that the winter months are coming, some may notice them a lot more. Lucky for you, we have a bomb product we are now stocking in salon that can help overcome these issues – spoiler alert! It’s from the Slick Hair Company.

What Are Flyaways?

To put it simply, flyaways are little bits of hair that, well, fly away. This is not the same as frizzy hair! Fizziness is what appears when it’s a really humid day and your hair turns into a 1980’s Cyndi Lauper music video. Now, if this is the look you’re going for, ROCK IT! If not, that’s what we consider frizz. Whereas flyaways are those little hairs that you see at the top of your head, close to your scalp, that look like they are almost floating in the air.

How Do They Happen?

There are a few reasons why this might be happening to your hair including breakages, dry hair and new growth.

Breakage
If your hair has undergone a lot of colouring, bleaching or chemical treatments close to your roots, you may notice some breakage throughout the hair. This doesn’t happen to everyone, but because each person’s hair is so unique, it is difficult to determine if this could happen to you. This is why it is so important to give your hairdresser your entire hair history, from product use to previous services performed. Transparency is key! To counteract this, we recommend that all clients use the Keune Bond Fusion during their colour services.

Dry Hair
Winter is coming and like our skin, winter can be drying on our hair follicles. It is important to change up your hair care routine to keep your hair hydrated throughout the colder seasons. Having dry hair can be a key factor as to why you might be experiencing a sudden increase in flyaways. Dryness can produce a static effect leaving you with some floating strands. If you’re in need of more hydrating hair care products, have a chat to our team to organise your hair consultation.

New Growth
This is the best and most rewarding cause for flyaways. Yes girl, your hair is healthy and growing! As you would know hair growth takes time, and as your new hair begins to sprout from your scalp it will start off short and wispy. This is why you will notice a lot of flyaways throughout your part, close to your scalp. As happy as we are about new hair growth, we know it can be so annoying to style with, this is where the Slick Stick from the Slick Hair Company comes in.
